The PR6426 specification sheet identifies this as a 32 mm eddy-current sensor for critical turbomachinery. It measures shaft displacement, position, eccentricity, and motion.

Commercial-Technical Deep Dive

When a large turbine shaft measurement channel fails, the mechanical fit is only half the problem. The electrical measuring chain must also match. PR6426/010-110 uses a 32 mm sensor head, a mounting plate, armored cable, and a LEMO termination. Its ordering matrix specifies a 5 m cable configuration for the -110 suffix.

The matching CON021/916-240 converter is configured for the PR6426 family and a 24.0 mm extended measuring range. Emerson specifies ≤3.5% linearity error for this converter variant. The converter also provides a 0 to 20 kHz frequency range with a rise time below 15 µs. Its supply and output are negative-voltage interfaces, not standard 4-20 mA current loops. That distinction matters when replacing an existing protection channel.

Compatibility & Installation Traps

Migration/Compatibility

Treat the complete probe and converter as a matched measurement chain.

PR6426/010-110 is not a universal drop-in substitute for every installation. The physical sensor configuration, cable termination, converter range, output mode, and monitoring-system scaling must all match the installed chain.

The CON021/916-240 converter is specifically assigned to with a 24.0 mm extended range. Emerson lists ≤3.5% linearity error for this version.

For migration to newer Emerson hardware, verify the engineering change separately. Emerson’s March 2026 EZ1000 manual lists support from firmware 1.0.6 onward. That makes the newer converter a migration path, not proof of a plug-for-plug replacement.

No PLC logic rewrite is normally the first concern here. Channel scaling and protection setpoints deserve more attention.

⚠️ Field Traps (Watch Out)

Negative-voltage output trap:
CON021 supports -4 to -20 V or -2 to -18 V output modes, depending on supply configuration. Confirm the receiving channel expects the correct polarity and span before energizing the loop.

Mechanical clearance trap:
The sensor requires a suitable mounting arrangement and a ferromagnetic target. Emerson specifies a nominal center air gap of approximately 5.5 mm and a minimum shaft diameter of 200 mm. Check probe clearance before shutdown work begins.

Do not bend the armored cable beyond its specified minimum radius. The Emerson drawing gives 35 mm for armored cable and 25 mm for non-armored cable.

Quality Assurance SOP

Each available unit should pass a documented incoming and pre-shipment inspection sequence.

OEM anti-counterfeit visual inspection
Check model markings, label format, connector construction, machining quality, cable jacket, and nameplate consistency against Emerson documentation.

Mechanical inspection
Verify the 32 mm sensor body, mounting plate, cable armor, connector condition, and visible hardware. Check for impact marks, corrosion, cracked insulation, or damaged threads and mounting surfaces.

Electrical continuity check
Confirm probe and cable continuity before power application. Inspect the LEMO interface for bent contacts, contamination, or poor locking action.

Power-on verification
Energize the CON021 using the documented negative DC supply range. Check supply stability and converter output response. The converter specification calls for -23 to -32 V supply for the -4 to -20 V mode, or -21 to -32 V for the -2 to -18 V mode.

Signal response verification
Use a controlled metallic target and calibrated gap fixture where available. Record output changes across the intended operating span. Compare measured behavior with the applicable and CON021 specifications.

Communication handshake verification
For this analog measuring chain, verify the downstream channel response rather than claiming digital communications. Confirm correct signal polarity, span, channel scaling, and alarm input behavior.

Final evidence package
Record model number, serial number, test date, measured values, inspection findings, and shipment photographs. Retain the test record with the order file.

CRO-Driven Buyer FAQ

Is /010-110 still a valid replacement part?

It remains documented by Emerson. The current specification sheet is dated August 2024. The documentation is older, dated August 2017. Emerson’s 2026 EZ1000 manual also lists among supported sensors.

Is /916-240 interchangeable with every version?

No. The /916-240 code identifies the family and 24.0 mm extended range. Other variants use different sensor families or measurement ranges. Match the converter code before replacement.

Can I replace the probe while the converter remains powered?

Do not treat the LEMO sensor connection as a hot-swap interface. Use the site’s approved power-down and machinery isolation procedure before disconnecting the measuring chain. In hazardous areas, follow the applicable installation and intrinsic-safety requirements in the Emerson documentation.

What output does /916-240 provide?

The converter uses negative-voltage analog output. Depending on configuration, Emerson specifies -4 to -20 V or -2 to -18 V. Do not substitute a standard 4-20 mA channel without verifying the actual receiving architecture.

What warranty and technical support are included?

The standard sales warranty can be stated as 12 months, subject to the shipped unit and your written warranty terms. Technical support covers model verification, condition evidence, test records, and basic installation guidance. Application-specific protection settings, machinery design, and site safety procedures remain the customer’s engineering responsibility.
